Cork Athletics Graded Track & Field Leagues sponsored by 2016 John Buckley Sports

This year’s Graded Leagues, the seventh series since the Leagues were revived in 2010, sees six meets in all, with the first on Wednesday May 18th.  June sees two meets; Thurs June 9th and Mon June 20th, with two in July, on Tues July 12th and Mon July 25th, with the final event on Fri Aug 25th

Last year's leagues were highly successful, with an average of eighty four (84) athletes at each meet, and a peak of one hundred and four (104) athletes at one meet. This year we are setting an ambitious target of exceeding an average of 100 athletes per meet.

There were forty three (43) registered Cork clubs last year, with twenty six (26) clubs taking part, however only ten (10) clubs were represented at all six meets.

Of the twenty six participating clubs, sixteen clubs had less than four athletes at any meet. This is a challenge, rather than a criticism. If four athletes (men and/or women) from each club were to compete in each meeting, there would be a huge increase in participation.

**Non Cork clubs averaged 22.5 athletes per meeting, and three Cork clubs averaged well above four athletes per meet.

Personal best performances at every level will continue to be recognised with of vouchers from John Buckley Sports.

Field events are being actively promoted.  Last year, separate awards were given for the best Cork Field Event performances at each meet, plus three awards for the leading Cork Field Events athlete, on the basis of best points scored in three rounds of the League.
