Irish 800m Record Holder David Matthews takes up new role in Cork

800m record holder David Matthews takes up a new development role in Cork,
as of January 26th. A new initiative, this role is funded by Cork IT,
Athletics Ireland and Cork Athletics. David will be allocating his
time between AAI and CIT. David has been the fitness advisor to
the Cork hurlers, and he will continue that, while also working
full-time for athletics in Cork. A key area of David's work with Cork
Athletics will be focussing on the Under 16 to Under 23 age group.
David Matthews is the current holder of the Irish 800m record of
1:44.82, which was set in Rieti, Italy, on Sept 5th 1995.
Athletics Ireland intends formally announcing the appoinment, along
with a number of other national appointments, shortly, and fuller
details of his role with Cork Athletics will be disclosed then.
