Rob Heffernan, Toger AC, has been nominated as the Cork City Sports athlete of the month for October. He was was presented with the award by Cork City Mayor Cllr. Mary Shields, at a ceremony held in the River Lee Hotel, yesterday. Rob thanked City Sports & the sponsors The River Lee Hotel, 96FM/C013 & The Evening Echo for their continued support.
Rob was the recipient of the October award, due to his performance in a 4 day invitational race walking event in China.
Michelle Finn, Leevale AC, receives the award for an outstanding 2nd place in the senior women’s National Inter Counties Cross Country Championship, held at Dundalk IT, on November 23rd. As a result of her performance there, Michelle secured an automatic selection on the Irish team for the European Cross Country Championships, held in Bulgaria, on December 14th. Michelle ran a superb race in Bulgaria finishing 23rd, scoring on the Irish Senior Women’s team and helping the team secure the Bronze Medals in the team contest.
Earlier this year Michelle came 2nd in the 3000m steeplechase at the National Track & Field Championships – an event she won in 2013.
