Another National Junior Record for 4x100m Women!

The Irish 4x100m women were even in contention for a medal right up to the final changover, but were overtaken in the final leg. Nevertheless this was a tremendous achievement - coming fifth in the World, and setting a new National Junior Record of 44.82sec

Mens 5000m Final
Earlier Pierre Murchan and Jack O'Leary ran in the 5000m final, finishing in 22nd and 25th places respectively, in 14:38.67 and 14:50.67. The ev ent proved to be an African Tour De Force, as Championship distance event tend to be nowadays, with African representatives filling the first seven places.
The event was won by Selemon Barega of Ethiopia, in 13:21.21, after a sprint with Djamal Direh, Djbouti, 13:21.50 and Wesley Ledama, Kenya, 13:23.34. Hands-down favourite, Aron Kifle, Eritrea, finished in 5th place in 13:31.09, after falling with two laps to go. He quickly gathered himself, but the leading trio were gone and he was unable to make up significant ground
