Statement from Belgooly AC
It is with regret that the board of Belgooly AC have had to cancel our annual 4 mile road race on St Stephen's Day, due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic. This has been a popular and well supported event on the Cork Christmas sports calendar for a long number of years and it is disappointing that it has had to join the long list of cancelled events this year.
Along with being the club's only road race it has also been a significant funding stream for our charity partners. The Bowel Cancer Unit in the CUH. As many charities have seen a major cut to their funding this year the club has taken the decision to make a €500 donation from club funds to the Bowel Cancer Unit in the CUH.
The club will not be holding a virtual race but we would like to encourage our regular supporters to go for a run/jog/walk on St Stephen's Day to keep up the tradition and, if they can do so, to make a donation directly to the Bowel Cancer Unit in the CUH, in recognition of the fantastic work they do for all those people who require their services.
Anyone who wants to donate may do so directly to the club via John Copithorne. Cheques/Postal Orders should be payable to "Bowel Cancer Unit CUH". John's address is John Copithorne, Belgooly, Co. Cork
Alternatively, donations in an envelope, clearly marked Bowel Cancer Unit CUH, may be given to John Copithorne, or any Belgooly Committee member.
Please ensure that your name and contact details are included, so that donations can be acknowledged. Blegooly AC's Fund closes on Friday January 15th and the Presentation to Bowel Cancer Unit CUH will be made towards the end of January.

Belgooly 4 - Course Elevation Profile
Note: The sharp rise abefore the 2 Mile mark - this is Google being fooled by trees. That "hump" is a gradual rise, until shortly after the grotto, when a series of short sharp climbs start.
Start Line
View Facing the Start Line - approx. 700m on Kinsale side of the village
Passing thro' Belgooly Village
Belgooly 4 - Belgooly Village
The 1 Mile mark is on the bend at the end of the long straight, on the Cork side of the village, approx. 1km out.
The two mile mark is on a straight section, before the Grotto.
After the 2 Mile mark, pass around the S bends and take a left off the main road, followed by another immediate left.
Left and left again
Left onto back road, running, more or less, parallel to the main road
Belgooly 4 - Robert Splaine's Equestrian Centre
300m or so of a stiff drag/climb
The 3 mile mark comes on a nice downhill section, followed by a short flat, then the start of a half mile of undulations
Belgooly 4 - 800m to go
The 400m mark is just after the school (on left)
Belgooly 4 - 400m to go
After the final junction, there is another gradual downslope - beware of the road camber on the left as you drop down - it slopes sharply to the left, so you may be better off staying towards the centre of the road
Belgooly 4 - Last downhill
The finish line is at the end of the hill, before the humpback bridge
