Leevale AC's Charlie O'Donovan & Alex Wright were both in action over the weekend, with Charlie representing his college, Villanova University, at the Dr. Sanders Invitational, in Columbia University, in New York, last Thursday. At the other side of the Atlantic, and the far side of Europe, Alex Wright took part in the 17th annual Elán Indoor Meet, which was held in Bratislava, Slovakia

Charlie ran 8:33.72, for 30th place overall, in an extremely competitive 3,000m. This put Charlie in the 5th Freshman place. As yet unconfirmed, this is a big PB for Charlie, who is studying in Villanova, and is under the guidance of Villanova's, and Leevale's iconic Marcus O'Sullivan, who is Head Coach at the University

17th Annual Elán Indoor

The 17th annual Elán indoor meet was held on Sunday January 27th, in the Slovakian capital, Bratislava, with three Irish walkers taking part.

Alex Wright, Leevale AC, set a blistering pace, from the gun, in the Men's 5,000m Walk, finishing in 19:10.76.  Guatemala's Eric Barrondo finished second, in 19:21.18, with England's Corbishley Cameron third in 19:49.53. Tthere was an excellent performance from the Farranfore Maine Valley AC's Irish Under-23 Walker David Kenny producd an excellent performance, taking 40 second off his PB, to finish 7th, in 21:13.58.

Kate Veale, West Waterford AC, was in action earlier,. in the 3,000m Womens Walk, finishing 4th in a time of 13:52.68. Victory went to Maria Czakova, Slovakia, in 12:36.00, from Mirina Ortiz, Guatemala, in 12:41.36, with Hana Burzalovā, Slovakia, third in 13:44.92.

About Us

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland. Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
