Bantry AC's Darragh McElhinney took a phenomenal 23.35 seconds off Aaron Hanlon's (Clonliffe Harriers AC) previous record of 14:37.02, set when winning the Men's 5,000m, at the Boston University Opener meet, on December 2nd 2014.



Guesting at Day 1 of the Connacht Indoor Championships, in AIT Athlone yesterday, Darragh ran 14:13.67, to win, from a quality field.

Togher AC's Evan Byrne, who was also guesting, placed third in 14:30.11, while Mullingar AC's Jamie Battle, in 4th place, ran the third fastest Under-20 5,000m, in 14:37.10, just outside the old record set by Aaron Hanlon.

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland. Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork.
