Noel Carroll, Shercock AC (Bronze), Yared Derese Carrick Aces AC (Gold) and Paul Moloney Mallow AC (Silver)

Paul Moloney, Mallow AC, took Silver at today's National Half-Marathon Championships in Rathoath, Co. Meath, leading Mallow AC's team including Gary Relihan and Pat Healy home in 25th place, on 4:35:26.  Overall there was a small Cork contingent in the Championships, with only one other Cork team running today; Subject to confirmation - results outside the first 3 men and women are provisional - GRange Fermoy AC's M50 team of Liam O'Connor (1:15:57), Johnny O'Sullivan (1:17:49) and John Murphy (1:19:42) are National M50 Champions with an aggregate 3:53:28

DERESE AND PURCELL CLAIM NATIONAL HALF TITLES

Yared Derese (Carrick Aces AC) and Kate Purcell (Raheny Shamrock AC) claimed their respective national half marathon titles at sun-drenched Fairyhouse racecourse this morning (September 10th). The championship races took place alongside a hugely successful Ratoath Half Marathon

Derese looked super smooth as her entered the racecourse for his run to home, crossing in a course record 1:05:29 to claim gold. He was followed in by Paul Maloney of Mallow AC, with Noel Carroll securing a brilliant bronze for Shercock AC

Senior Women

Kate Purcell continues her brilliant season, claiming her second national title of the year following her win in the 5 mile earlier this season. The Raheny star showed no ill effects from her mountain running exploits in Clonmel last weekend to cross in a course record of 1:18:01. Purcell was followed home by Sarah Baryga of Sli Cualann and Denise Toner of Clones AC.

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland. Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
