Volunteer Stewards Still Urgently Required - Cork City Marathon 2023

Sunday June 4th 2023

Apart from all the fine details that go into organising any event, no race can go ahead without two essential elements:

Runners and Stewards

With just a few days to go, it looks like we will have a record 10,000 Plus runners across the three events on Sunday: Marathon (8:15am), 10k (8:45am) and Half-Marathon (10:15am).  There is a huge requirement for volunteers, particularly Stewards along the route

Cork Athletics needs at least 125 stewards in all...BUT...We're still short by over 20 Stewards, from the 125 required
Can YOU Help, Please?

Cork Athletics manages and stewards some 60% of the course, from the Start Line to Tivoli (0 to 5 Miles), then from the Marina to the Finish line (15 Miles to 26.2 Miles). The County Board is also covering the 10k course stewarding

There has, as always, been a tremendous response from Athletes and their Clubs, nevertheless there is still a shortfall in requirements.  If you can spare a few hours on Sunday June 4th, please contact Pat Walsh, Cork Athletics - contact details below

Incentive to Clubs Providing Stewards for Marathon

Cork County Board is offering member clubs a financial fundraising incentive, similar to that of the Grant Thornton, for each steward that a club provides

Stewarding can be a very rewarding experience, and is a great way to see the event, while, at the same time, giving something back to the sport and the community
