County Board Officers View Track - Wednesday July 3rd 2024

Prior to Wednesday's July meeting of the Officers of the County Board, the officers, with permission of MTU Management, walked the track to see, at close hand, the progress.  There is still some work to be done to some of the field event areas, but this is expected to be completed in time for Tuesday's 70th Cork City Sports, whilst, in the medium/longer term, additional drainage is to be installed around the outer perimeter

Track Markings

Track markings have been painted in each lane for the first time at MTU, and metal tags have also been placed inside the inner rail, so any confusion that may have existed up to now, should be eliminated

Official Opening of MTU Track

Official opening of MTU track, by Thomas Byrne T.D., Minister of Sport, will take place on Monday next. The first activity on the newly relaid track will be the 70th Cork City Sports, on Tuesday evening, while clubs will return to their old time slots, from Wednesday next, July 10th

Several Clubs, who previously trained at the Mardyke track, have applied to use the MTU track, and MTU Sports Dept is considering the options, if any, available.  In tandem with this, Cork Athletics County Board is holding a meeting, on Friday 12th July, with club representatives (ONE representative per club should attend), to ascertain what options exist, with the outcome being relayed to MTU, for consideration
