Running in his first ever indoor race, Youghal AC athlete Fearghal Curtin knocked almost 10 seconds off of his previous best time, when finishing a very close third, in the 3000m, at the Commodore Invitational, in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday night, January 13th 2018.

The former Midleton CBS student, in his first year at Charleston Southern University, in South Carolina, clocked a time of 8:17.06 to claim third place behind two Kenyans, Kigen Chemadi (7:58.46), and Jacob Chloe (8:16.49), both students at Middle Tennessee State. While Chemadi finished well ahead of the field, Fearghal was only a hair's-breadth behind the runner-up, Jacob Chloe, just 0.17 sec behind.

Curtin's previous best was 8:26.00, which he ran at the Le Cheile International, in Leixlip, in July 2016.
