Early stages of UW Invitational 5,000m 2019
Youghal AC and Arizona State University athlete Fearghal Curtin ran 14:05.09, just outside his 14:02.88 PB, at the UW Invitational, in Seattle, Washington, last night. Fearghal finished third, in a time of 14:05.09, just missing out on breaking into the top-10 in Arizona State University history, but nevertheless he goes into the top-12 Collegiates Nationally, in the U.S.

The pacemaker set a very slow pace, and one of the professional athletes went out very hard. Fearghal had to run wide to progress. He decided to make a break from the group, at the half-way stage. Afterwards, Fearghal said that he was "... happy with result", as he has only been building up his training since Christmas following injury last Autumn. Fearghal has set his sights on breaking the 14 minute barrier, in the foreseeable future. Fearrghal's next track race is in two weeks. He says that he "... feels good", and is "getting into good shape"

Fearghal set his PB at of 14:02.88, in the 5,000m, at last year's Florida Relays. Prior to that his 5000m best was 15:18, which he ran at the Irish Schools T&F Championships, in June 2016. His previous 5k best on the road was 15:00, set when winning the 2017 Youghal 5k
